Thornbury U13 (3) v Fry Club Colts
U13 (5)
October 9th, 2005
It took
just 40 second for Fry’s to get on the score sheet with a fantastic strike from
Justin Skinner. Fry’s maintained the pressure for the next 10 minutes and came close
a couple of times with Harry Pople firing wide and Evan Thomas shooting into
the arms of the keeper.
Thornbury
started to fight back, and came close in the 12th minute. They
nearly scored with a long range effort which was pushed wide by the diving Tom
Rose in the Fry’s goal.
Just
before the conclusion of the first half Dan Buley connected with a well crossed
ball from Harry Pople, but couldn’t keep the ball down and saw his effort
disappear over the bar.
The
second half started with Josh Brooks coming on for Evan Thomas.
Ryan
Davis was unfortunate to see a shot go wide after a determined run through the
Thornbury defence.
The
second goal for Fry’s came five minutes into the second half after a fantastic
cross from Justin Skinner was met with a crisp shot from Ryan Ellett inside the
box.
Ryan
Ellett netted his second two minutes later with an individual effort which he
fired into the back of the net.
3 nil and
the game looked safe but Thornbury thought differently. They continued to
battle and pulled a goal back after 47 minutes. A well taken goal fired in from
the right side of the area.
The next
substitution saw Tom Hooper on for Myles Jefferies. Fry’s looked like they had
another chance when they won a free kick half way into the Thornbury half but
the floated in ball from Dan Stone was headed well clear by the defence.
Josh
Brooks was looking strong and had numerous efforts which went just wide of the
target.
The 52nd
minute saw Thornbury make it 3-2 with a replay of their first goal flying into
the net from the right.
Ryan
Davis bagged himself a goal with a well taken shot which was too strong and out
of reach of the leaping Thornbury keeper.
As soon
as Fry’s seemed to make the game safe, Thornbury would fight back and were
awarded a penalty in the 57th minute,which
they duly converted to bring the score back to 4-3.
Lewis
Marcham was the third substitution for Fry’s when he came on for Dan Buley.
Fry’s went 5-3 up in the 65th minute with a
well deserved goal for the ever persistent Harry Pople as he went charging
through and calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper.
The final
substitution came 6 minutes from time with the introduction up front of John
Cotgrieve for Ryan Ellett.
Fry’s
continued to battle and they held on to secure their fifth win in a row. Well
done boys, the season has started superbly.
Comment: The ref at this match should be
commended on the way he officiated the game. He constantly explained to the
boys why he had blown up and made each decision clear. It definitely helps the
boys understand the rules and respect the match officials.
